The Shape of a Woman...Working Title

Hey Everyone

I have something rather serious to talk about today, while living in Toronto I started a project that I had to put on hold. The working title was "The Shape of a Woman", and the concept was to raise awareness and money for cancer research through an exhibition/fundraiser/auction, where all the funds raised would be donated to the Cancer Society. Unfortunately I was unable to finish the project, but now I am starting it up again

Many of us have been affected by some form of cancer, I personally have had family members, friends, and even a girlfriend battle with this issue, thankfully everyone I have known to battle cancer has won for many others that is not the case, in the end each and every cancer is just as devastating as the next.

Here is a site that outlines the probability of developing cancer in a lifetime.

The idea was simple I wanted to grab everyones attention by photographing the nude female body and having each female I photograph write a "one pager" basically a short write up about who the subject is but I don't mean name, age, etc. More along the lines of what their health, sexuality, etc mean to them.

At first I thought I had a solid idea, however I pitched it to a few friends to see what they felt and the most common response was that most woman would be to shy having everything shown including their face.

So What I decided to do is make it more focused, therefore I changed the concept to be based on breasts since it is the more common cancer amongst woman. Now at first some of the same friends were still hesitant on the idea, but when I explained the actual shot and how it would look very clinical and each subject would not have their face included in the photograph they began to understand.

Here is a sample of one subject I recently shot.
(I censored it for the blog because it is open to the all of the web)

To further elaborate on the project, I plan on photographing woman from different ethnic backgrounds, weights, cup sizes, ages, etc. Showing that all woman are beautiful and that we all need to do our part because it can affect anyone at any time.

Now I am also open to having other artist joining in on the exhibition, artists who deal in the nude form. The more the better, I would love to raise as much money as possible.

If you yourself want to be part of this project either posing or know of someone who would be interested in posing, even helping in the development of the exhibition would be outstanding.

When I grow old I want to look back on my life and feel that I did something worthy of being here, I want to know that I made an impact and maybe even impacted someone. Don't You?

I extend a challenge to all who are reading this to make an impact.

New Year New Portfolio

Hey Everyone

So 2009 was a year full of change, I moved back to Calgary from Toronto, started selling some of my work, however this is just the beginning.

In 2010 I plan on doing much more, I aim to keep shooting portrait work for families and such but I am revamping my portfolio to get it prepared to send to Photographer Reps around Canada and the U.S. The goal is to gain representation so that I can move more into the advertising and editorial end of the business.

Why an agent/rep? Well two reasons, reps usually have a number of contacts that go to them when in need of a new ad/images/etc. Also some reps like the ones at Westside Studio in Toronto work from the studio where the photographers work out of as well. (Bonus)

So I am taking the time to redo everything in my port hopefully to the approval of one of the agents I send it to.

I am just shooting everything, some will make it to my port others are just spur of the moment. I am shooting in order by backdrop colour, so I am doing most everything on black right now then white then other colours.

Take a look at some of the images from the past 3 days, I also put logos on some of them to give a better idea of what I was thinking.
