WORKING HARD OR HARDLY WORKING??

Hey Everyone

I am a huge fan of behind the scenes stuff so I wanted to make sure I pass it on.

This was the set up and final product for a shoot I did months ago.

iPhone Art

Hey Hey Hey

Like others I picked up an iPhone pretty much right away when it came out. A photographer I admire (Chase Jarvis) has a new book out along with a photography app called "The Best Camera".

His words are very true "the best camera you have is the one that you have with you at the moment". It really doesn't matter how many fps or megapixels you have when the camera is at home.

So here are a group of my fave iPhone images I've taken.

Winter Wonderland

Hey Photo Followers

I was recently delivering some images to a customers place outside of Airdrie in the country side and I came across this wonderful driveway.

It was so beautiful that I drove up to the house and asked the owners permission to photograph the driveway. I was met at the door by a very nice lady who was more than willing to let me shoot.

I hope if she comes across this photo she is happy with it just as much as I am. Thank You!

I also hope that you all see how incredible the winter can really be.

Everyone Loves Showers

Hey Bloggers

Its always going to be a good day when you get a call first thing in the morning from a model for a photo shoot. Its a even better day when the model tells you that she wants to "do it in the shower". hehe

Just the other day Naomi calls and tells me that she wants to update her port with some sexy, edgy images.

Now as a photographer I like to have creative freedom when it comes to the concept, however it is nice on last minute assignments to already have a goal set, it makes the day go a little smoother.

The call came in around 9am and by 7pm that night we were shooting. The location was already chosen, Naomi has a beautiful 3 story townhouse in a fancy neighbourhood. We had shot there before using the kitchen and it was impressive. So I knew that the master bath would be just as nice.

I was not let down, the master bath was huge, there were floor to ceiling tiles in the entire room, open concept no doors, a modern free standing tub with a separate shower that honestly could hold 10 people.

While Naomi was changing into her bikini , I set up. I used just one light with an umbrella around 9-10' high and 7-8' away from where she would be standing to give the edgy look she wanted using shadows, it also emphasized her... curves... hehe

The shoot went by very quickly and without any hiccups, its always fun to work with Naomi she has a sense of humour that matches mine. Its a wonder we get anything done during our shoots due to the fact that we are always cracking jokes and laughing.

Faking it....

Hey Hey Hey

So a friend of mine told me that if I really want to get into commercial photography I have to have some content for potential clients to look at.

Obviously I have a portfolio, but he was referring to more direct content, he said "fake some ads".

So thats what I did "I faked it" quick and dirty nothing fancy, lighting was just two lights spilling into the room, a camera and a tripod.

I took the Cialis ads you see on TV and billboards, and made my own. I though about a dirty kitchen/baking cookies/doing dishes.

I thought it came out well, lots to improve on but in the end its pretty funny, which is what i was going for.

Not to mention its always fun to destroy someone else's kitchen. hehe

Peaceful Trees

Hey Nature Lovers

I was driving the other day out to the mountains to shoot some stock images. When I came across this really great row of trees that lent themselves to a perfect pano.

I pulled over to the side of the hwy, jumped out, grabbed my camera and tri-pod and shot a few frames. I did this very fast due to the transport trucks screaming past me. lol

Its funny because everyone thinks trees are so peaceful, and yes they are, if you are the one looking at the final image.

Not so much for the one taking the photo. hehe

Hey Everybody

Long time since my last entry, I apologize, this one however is cool.

The other night I was sitting around relaxing and I got an email from a friend telling me about an celestial event called a "moon halo", I had no clue what this was so I went to google and checked out what he was referring to.

Wikipedia defines it as

"an optical phenomenon produced by ice crystals creating colored or white arcs and spots in the sky. Many are near the sun or moon but others are elsewhere and even in the opposite part of the sky."

So after reading this I go out and take a look in the sky, this thing is huge to give you a scale, I looked up at the moon and with my hands I placed them side by side starting at the moon ending at the ring, I got 3.5 hands across.

So I grabbed my gear and drove to the edge of the city, the clouds were out and with all the light pollution I was not sure what I was going to get.

I set up and right away I could see a faint ring around the moon, a few adjustments later I got it. I changed up some angles and made some changes to where I was located but it came out great.

Take a Look.
